Father Vincent was born in Calvados, France in 1191 and named Vaquelin Pummeroy. In his early life, he served as a reeve in Calvados before joining the Church.
In the Church, his carefree, softhearted nature contributed to his seniors judging him unfairly, and caused him to live a the career of a peripatetic priest. However, his travels gave him a fair command of several languages and knowledge of the world.
