Liphilt (pronounced Lipp'-ilt?), a poultry woman, is a widow with an eight-year-old daughter Matla.
Liphilt was from further northwest and grew up speaking German, but her late husband was from Cottbus (part of the crew of a riverboat) so at age 27 she has lived in the area more than ten years and speaks the local language well. She keeps chicken and ducks, and also game birds for short periods but does not usually try to breed those. Her birds can keep the covenant in eggs, provide occasional meat, and also provide some feathers for pillows or comforters. Matla helps Liphilt with the chicken and ducks but is also fascinated by Mina, the goose woman, and follows her around when possible.
Matla (her daughter) claims the geese talk to her.
