Guide to Jarandian Deities (Abridged)

There are close to ten thousand deities worshipped in the Kingdom of Jarand. This will be a partial guide to deities the players are most likely to encounter.

Power Level

Jarandian deities are sorted into four types in order of power:

  1. Major deity: These are the most powerful deities and are the embodiment of the four main alignments (Good, Law, Chaos and Evil).
  2. Greater deity: These deities belong in one of the four pantheons (Good, Law, Chaos, Evil). Deities in the Lawful, Good and Evil pantheons serve a major deity. Deities in the Chaos pantheon recognize Boreas as the most powerful but to say they serve him would overstate their allegiance.
  3. Lesser deity: These deities are less powerful than the previous two. These lesser deities represent various professions, professional activities, elements and other powers that influence day to day life in Jarand.
  4. Minor deities: These are spirits, demigods, angels and other powerful residents of the outer planes. They are typically family and personal gods to Jarandian citizens.

Scope

A typical Jarandian, except for clerics, will worship four deities. They will choose one of each of these:

  1. Alignment deity: This deity is chosen based on alignment. It will either be a major deity (of Good, Law, Chaos or Evil) or a greater deity (of any of the nine alignments or rulers of planes).
  2. Professional deities. These lesser deities represent various professions, professional activities, elements and other powers that influence day to day life in Jarand.
  3. Family deities. Each family will have a deity that watches over that family.
  4. Personal deities. These spirits or demigods influence those things that most motivate a Jarandian on a personal level whether it be love, work, greed, power, etc. Personal deities can be made up by the player or chosen from the lists of major, professional or family deities.

A typical Jarandian will worship one of each of the types of deities. Only clerics will forsake family and personal deities to serve either a major or professional deity.
